Baseball Game Preview: Castro Valley Trojans vs. San Leandro Pirates

The Castro Valley Trojans will face off against the San Leandro Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Castro Valley 3.7, San Leandro 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Castro Valley barely beat Bishop O'Dowd the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Castro Valley never let Bishop O'Dowd get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Thursday. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Owen Seidel made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, David Colon was a standout: he scored a run while going 2-for-4. Anthony Mares was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, San Leandro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 7-2 to Head-Royce.

Lorenzo Charles made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that he hit this season.

Castro Valley is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. San Leandro's loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

Castro Valley took their victory against San Leandro when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0. Does Castro Valley have another victory up their sleeve, or will San Leandro turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
