Basketball Recap: Anthony Atkins' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Christ Church Episcopal over Powdersville

Christ Church Episcopal entered their match against Powdersville on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Christ Church Episcopal Cavaliers fell just short of the Powdersville Patriots by a score of 62-60. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cavaliers have suffered since December 22, 2023.

Christ Church Episcopal lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Anthony Atkins, who went 8 of 11 en route to 20 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Those 20 points gave Atkins a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Perry, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 15 points and five assists.

Powdersville had a senior duo take command as Quan Burton went 10 of 15 en route to 23 points and Jaleel McGee went 8 for 12 on his way to 22 points along with five assists and four steals. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for McGee. Another player making a difference was Von Burton, who posted nine points.

Christ Church Episcopal's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 11-4. As for Powdersville, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Carolina Academy the next time they take the court. Powdersville will host Carolina Academy at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, while Christ Church Episcopal will host them at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th.
