Basketball Recap: Euclid Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Euclid took on Mentor on Friday. The contest between the Euclid Panthers and the Mentor Cardinals didn't end well, with the Euclid Panthers falling 88-70. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (56), the Panthers still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Euclid lost, don't look at Thai Duncan. Despite the final result, he went 11 for 21 en route to 32 points. Duncan's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kye Owens, who went 7 of 8 on his way to 24 points in addition to eight boards and three blocks.

Kobe Frasure-Azzano continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mentor, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds. Frasure-Azzano is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Sierputowski, who went 8 for 18 en route to 18 points and five assists.

Euclid has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Mentor, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-4.

Euclid wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 83-60 defeat against Brunswick on the 28th. Mentor has also already played their next contest, an 81-68 win against Villa Angela-St. Joseph on the 25th.
