Softball Game Preview: Lake Placid Dragons vs. Charlotte Fightin' Tarpons

The Lake Placid Dragons will venture away from home to face off against the Charlotte Fightin' Tarpons at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lake Placid is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Lake Placid and Avon Park, and Lake Placid kept the tradition alive. The Dragons put the hurt on the Red Devils with a sharp 12-2 win on Tuesday. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

Emily Tharp was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Allie Oliveros, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Hadlee Prescott was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Lake Placid hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Charlotte was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Riverview Sarasota.

Charlotte saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addi Recker, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Lake Placid is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Charlotte, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-13.
