Baseball Recap: Metcalfe County Hornets vs. Monroe County Falcons

Metcalfe County had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 5-9 to make it four. They fell 10-6 to the Monroe County Falcons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 on Tuesday.

As for Monroe County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-7. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.

For Monroe County's part, Brison Nuckols was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Nuckols was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Monroe County is undefeated when Nuckols posts two or more runs, but 5-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Briar Bourque was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Geralds, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Metcalfe County will challenge Somerset Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hornets are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Monroe County, they will face off against Trousdale County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons will also cruise into their next game with the timing on their side: the Yellowjackets will have lost eight straight heading into Thursday's match.
