The Fallston Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Rising Sun Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Fallston's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Rising Sun's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
While Fallston's victory against North Harford wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cougars narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Hawks 4-3. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Abby Marmen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Sara Frist, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Rising Sun faced off against Perryville last Tuesday. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 16-3 margin over the Panthers. The match marked the Tigers' most dominant win of the season so far.
Madison Ore made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Carsyn Godwin was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and three runs. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gemma Brand, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Rising Sun is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Fallston, their record now sits at 12-3.
Fallston couldn't quite get it done against Rising Sun in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-2. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
