Softball Recap: Lake City Takes Down Ranked Coeur D'alene

Lake City faced Coeur d'Alene in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Timberwolves came out on top in a nail-biter against the Vikings, sneaking past 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Timberwolves have posted against the Vikings since April 22, 2025.

Madeline Peterson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, KaeLee Kolden was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Macy Waterhouse, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.

The win (which was Lake City's fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Coeur d'Alene, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 18-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Lake City beat the Vikings by a score of 9-8 on Monday.
