Volleyball Recap: Wednesday's Defeat Ends Hannibal's Winning Streak

If Hannibal was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Fulton on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pirates came up short against the North Point Grizzlies on Wednesday, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Pirates have suffered since October 28, 2024.

Hannibal took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-22, 26-24.

Marissa Falconer paced Hannibal's offense, picking up 17 kills. Falconer got some help from Malia Stolte and her 21 assists. Stolte was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

North Point found their leader in sophomore Ivanna Osorio, who had 13 digs and two aces. Those 13 digs set a new season-high mark for Osorio.

With the defeat, Hannibal broke their four-match winning streak and moved their record to 16-6-1. As for North Point, they are on a roll lately: they've won 18 of their last 19 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-3 record this season.

Hannibal will challenge Kirksville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for North Point, they have already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Fort Zumwalt South on the 2nd.
