5A Region II District 14 recap Oct. 9, 2012

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Oak Ridge, who took down 236th ranked College Park, 23-20.

Conroe moved up to 632 from 778 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region II District 14. The Tigers climbed the ranks as a result of a 42-35 win over Bryan.

The Cavaliers' dynamic duo of Brett Buckley and Charrod Henry proved tough for the War Eagles to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Buckley threw for 133 yards and two touchdowns and Henry had 116 yards receiving. Jayden Holden helped College Park's passing attack out by catching one ball for 12 yards.

Ryder Lucas made the biggest impact on defense this week as College Park fell to Oak Ridge. The junior grabbed one interception.

Xavier Jones was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 80 yards as A&M Consolidated fell to Dereck Ruck's team. Teammate Jaylan Cheshire added to the ground attack by rushing for 77 yards.

Thanks to the talents of Cheshire and Jones the Tigers have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Cheshire leads the league in passing with 1369 yards, while Jones has rushed for 796 yards this season. The Cavaliers' Henry leads the league in receiving yards with 285 on 10 catches.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Lufkin takes on The Woodlands. As it stands, the Panthers are in second, while the Highlanders are in fourth.

A&M Consolidated was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to first in 5A Region II District 14. David Raffield's team beat The Woodlands 21-14 earlier in the week.
