Softball Game Preview: South Adams Starfires vs. Whitko Wildcats

The South Adams Starfires will square off against the Whitko Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. South Adams will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

South Adams is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. Everything went their way against Adams Central as they made off with a 15-5 victory. Considering the Starfires have won 16 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Addie Baker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Baker was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Reagan Beitler was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Reagan Bollenbacher, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Whitko faced off against Peru on Friday. The Wildcats walked away with a 5-1 win over the Tigers.

Addie Garr spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Chloe Keen was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Kaylee Adkins also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Whitko's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for South Adams, their record now sits at 22-5.
