Basketball Recap: Lakeland's Win Ends Six-Game Losing Streak at Home

Lakeland fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They strolled past the Lakeland Christian Academy Cougars with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 51-33.

Lakeland's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dulce Canedo, who posted 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That's the most boards Canedo has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cara Schackow, who went 5 of 6 on her way to 10 points and five blocks.

Despite the defeat, Lakeland Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Olivia Hawks had eight points and 13 rebounds. Dayton Sibert was another key player, going 5 of 10 on her way to 13 points.

Lakeland's win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-10. As for Lakeland Christian Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakeland will square off against West Noble at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lakeland Christian Academy, they will challenge LaVille at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
