The Kossuth Aggies are taking a road trip to face off against the Wheeler Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Kossuth is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last eight games.
If Kossuth beats Wheeler with 11 runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Aggies beat Corinth on Tuesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-1. The Aggies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.
Chloe Clement was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madeline Rhodes, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Madison Mitchell, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Kossuth kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive matchups.
Alcorn Central hit Wheeler with a nine-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles lost 11-1 to the Bears. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Bears recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Wheeler saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Kate Beckham, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Beckham has snagged this season.
Kossuth's record is now 8-1. As for Wheeler, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Everything went Kossuth's way against Wheeler in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, as Kossuth made off with a 10-0 victory. Will the Aggies repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
