Baseball Recap: Alcorn Central Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against New Albany, Alcorn Central was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Kossuth Aggies 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bears have posted since March 12th.

Jarrett Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Alcorn Central is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Alcorn Central's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Zane Depoyster, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Alcorn Central's win bumped their record up to 13-11. As for Kossuth, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-5.

Alcorn Central will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Aggies: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
