Laguna Creek is 1-6 against Cosumnes Oaks since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Cardinals will host the Wolfpack at 4:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Wednesday, Laguna Creek needed a bit of extra time to put away Pleasant Grove. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Eagles 5-4. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Cardinals as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Nikiya Jumpingbull spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Jazmine Johnson was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. Aundrea Jackson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Cosumnes Oaks hadn't done well against Franklin recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Wolfpack skirted past the Wildcats 5-4. The game was the first time the Wolfpack have beaten the Wildcats on their field since April 22, 2019.
Amyah Avila made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Onna Swanigan, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Mya Wilson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Cosumnes Oaks hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
Cosumnes Oaks now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Laguna Creek, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 6-8.
Cosumnes Oaks' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Laguna Creek hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. It's a different story for Cosumnes Oaks, though, as they've only averaged .256. Will they be able to contain Laguna Creek's hitters?
