Basketball Recap: Fredericksburg Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Gage Bryant and Jack Gioffre

Fredericksburg lost against Wimberley back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Fredericksburg Billies took a 53-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wimberley Texans. While losing is never fun, the Billies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 658th, while the Texans are ranked 263rd).

Jack Gioffre and Gage Bryant certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Gioffre went 8 for 19 en route to 19 points and four steals, while Bryant posted ten points. Gioffre's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

Wimberley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nathan Baker led the charge by going 6 of 12 on his way to 14 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Paul Gumbert-Mendoza, who scored 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Fredericksburg and nudges their season record down to 18-13. As for Wimberley, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 23-8.

Fredericksburg will head out to face off against Canyon Lake at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Fredericksburg is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.5 points per game this season. As for Wimberley, they will host Navarro at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Wimberley also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 65 points per game.
