Recap: Covenant Christian Cougars vs. First Baptist Saints
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Covenant Christian Cougars walked away with it. They secured a 48-44 W over the Saints on Wednesday. The victory was familiar territory for Covenant Christian who now have ten in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Covenant Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lucy Hahn, who scored eight points along with 16 rebounds and eight blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Alani Owens, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
When it comes to explaining why First Baptist lost, one person who can't be blamed is Emily Kate Jones. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 22 points and 23 rebounds. Jones is crushing the point category: she's posted at least 16 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Allison Munnerlyn, who scored nine points.
Even though they lost, First Baptist smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Covenant Christian only pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Covenant Christian is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 25-12 record this season. As for First Baptist, their defeat dropped their record down to 28-5.
Covenant Christian and Southcrest Christian will face off at 12:00 p.m. on February 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
