Baseball Recap: Alexander Central's Run of Five Straight Wins Now Over

Alexander Central dropped their record down to 15-9 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Watauga Pioneers by a score of 8-7. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Pioneers this season, with their most recent defeat being a 10-1 loss on April 8th.

Carter Bowman was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits.

At the plate, Wade Queen made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Sawyer Chapman-Mays was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

As for Watauga, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 15-11. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games.

On Watauga's side, JT Cook was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI Cook has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Maddox Greene, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Alexander Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Watauga, they will square off against South Caldwell at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Pioneers surely won't give up without a fight.
