Basketball Recap: Independence's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

Independence fought the good fight in their overtime game against Heritage on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 65-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Heritage Coyotes. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 375th, while the Coyotes are ranked 20th).

Heritage's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron Lomax, who went 7 for 14 on his way to 25 points in addition to five assists and five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Lomax has scored at least a third of Heritage's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Howard, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds.

With the defeat, Independence broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-13. As for Heritage, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 21-4.

Independence will head out on the road to face off against Emerson at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Heritage, they will be playing at home against Memorial at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 21 contests -- so hopefully Memorial likes a good challenge.
