Softball Recap: Mendon Unity Mustangs vs. Beardstown Tigers
Mendon Unity extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Monday, dropping them down to 0-4. They lost 16-0 to the Beardstown Tigers. If the Mustangs were looking for revenge after losing 17-0 to the Tigers when the teams met back in March of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Beardstown, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0. 16 seems to be a good number for them as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
For Beardstown's part, Khloe Kearns was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Kearns has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Ola Quigley and Kylynn Maltby did most of the damage at the plate: Quigley went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Maltby got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Maltby is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Looking ahead, Mendon Unity will challenge Quincy Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Beardstown, they will face off against Pleasant Plains at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
