Football Recap: Skylair Asberry and Memphis Perkins Lead the Defense for Baldwin Win

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Baldwin ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They snuck past the Baker County Wildcats with a 19-13 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Indians as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Baldwin didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Skylair Asberry and Memphis Perkins. With that strong performance, Perkins is now averaging an impressive 5.2 total tackles per game.

Despite the loss, Baker County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Samuriah Ruise threw for 138 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 73 yards.

Baldwin's win bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Baker County, they dropped their record down to 1-9 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Baldwin will face off against Bishop Snyder at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Indians 11.5, the Cardinals 8.9) so any points scored will be well earned. As for Baker County, they will challenge Gainesville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats are facing the Hurricanes at the right time seeing as the Hurricanes are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
