Preview: Grapevine Faith Christian Lions vs. Legacy Christian Academy Eagles
The Grapevine Faith Christian Lions will head out on the road to challenge the Legacy Christian Academy Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Grapevine Faith Christian is coming into the game hot, having won their last ten games.
Even though Grace Community scored an imposing 56 points on Friday, Grapevine Faith Christian still came out on top. Grapevine Faith Christian walked away with a 69-56 victory over Grace Community. Given Grapevine Faith Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 339th, while Grace Community is ranked 715th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Grapevine Faith Christian can attribute much of their success to Brennen Byrd, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, and Landon Harlin, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Byrd has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Noah Iommi, who scored seven points along with six assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, Legacy Christian Academy had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They took down Bishop Dunne 71-53 on Tuesday.
Grapevine Faith Christian pushed their record up to 27-9 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.2 points per game. As for Legacy Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 9-17.
Grapevine Faith Christian strolled past Legacy Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in January by a score of 52-38. The rematch might be a little tougher for Grapevine Faith Christian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
