Basketball Recap: Cambridge Christian Falls Short of Brandon Academy in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Cambridge Christian can now relate to. They fell to the Brandon Academy Scorpions 50-46. The loss continues a trend for the Lancers in their matchups with the Scorpions: they've now lost three in a row.

Cambridge Christian lost on Friday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Zay Burton, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Burton is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last nine games he's played. Caden Martinez was another key player, going 5 for 11 en route to 14 points.

Even though they lost, Cambridge Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

Aaron Miller-Holmes was his usual excellent self, going 8 of 12 on his way to 18 points along with six assists and five steals for Brandon Academy. The dominant performance gave Miller-Holmes a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Davian Colon, who posted nine points and five steals.

Cambridge Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Brandon Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Cambridge Christian will square off against Victory Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Victory Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 12 games -- so hopefully Cambridge Christian likes a good challenge. As for Brandon Academy, they will venture away from home to take on Donahue Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Donahue Catholic comes in on 12 and Brandon Academy on three.
