Basketball Recap: Glenpool Warriors vs. Bishop McGuinness Fighting Irish
Even though the Bishop McGuinness Fighting Irish scored an imposing 59 points on Friday, the Glenpool Warriors still came out on top. Glenpool walked away with a 72-59 win over the Fighting Irish. Given Glenpool's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while the Fighting Irish are ranked 109th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Aaliyah Shawnee was her usual excellent self, scoring 32 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Yaya Gibson, who scored 17 points.
Glenpool has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-2 record this season. As for Bishop McGuinness, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Glenpool won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Tigers at 2:00 p.m. on February 3rd. As for Bishop McGuinness, they will head out on the road to square off against the Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kingfisher will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
