Softball Recap: Southern Door Eagles vs. Brillion Lions
After flying high against Sturgeon Bay on Friday, Southern Door came back down to earth. The Eagles fell just short of the Brillion Lions by a score of 4-2 on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost three in a row.
Alanah Kaye and Samantha Melville put in work while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Kaye struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Melville pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. That one hit allowed gave Kaye a new career-low. At the plate, Kaye went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Melville went 2-for-4 with two doubles.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lexi Tassoul, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles.
Southern Door's record now sits at 7-4. As for Brillion, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern Door will head out to challenge Kewaunee at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Brillion, they will venture away from home to take on Valders at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lions 2.6, the Vikings 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
