Basketball Recap: Collinwood Comes Up Short

Collinwood has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 62-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Perry County Vikings on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Trojans came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Vikings are ranked 234th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Perry County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alayna Thornton, who went 6-for-9 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Those 20 points gave Thornton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Byrd, who posted 13 points in addition to eight boards and six assists.

Collinwood's loss dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Perry County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-14.

Collinwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Perry County has already played their next contest (against Wayne County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
