Softball Recap: Sacred Heart Continues Road Dominance on Thursday

Sacred Heart never let their opponents score on Thursday. They blew past the Resurrection Catholic Eagles 14-0. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Resurrection Catholic's batters probably weren't too happy with Katy Kilgore, who pitched a no hitter and racked up ten Ks (she gave up zero walks). Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Kilgore.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jana Phillips, who scored four runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Cambrie Baugh was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-3.

Sacred Heart was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher in four consecutive games.

Sacred Heart's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Resurrection Catholic, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sacred Heart will challenge Forrest County Agricultural at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Forrest County Agricultural has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.14 runs per game on average), something Sacred Heart will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Resurrection Catholic, they are taking a road trip to take on Our Lady Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
