Baseball Recap: A+ Charter School Sets Scoring Season-High Against Ajo

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask A+ Charter School). Everything went their way against the Ajo Red Raiders on Tuesday as they made off with a 16-1 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-0 back in March.

Dominic Ascenio and James Flores were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Ascenio pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Flores didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. At the plate, Ascenio scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3, while Flores went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jose Coronado, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Vash Livingston was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

A+ Charter School was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive matches.

A+ Charter School has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That somehow still isn't as good as their 7-1-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Ajo, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A+ Charter School will venture away from home to take on Thunderbird Adventist Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. A+ Charter School's pitchers better be ready for this one: Thunderbird Adventist Academy has averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Ajo, they will head out on the road to face off against Gila Bend at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
