Baseball Recap: Myrtle Snags Seventh Win in Last Eight Games

While Myrtle didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Pillow Academy Mustangs on Monday.

Drew Stanton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted over his last 11 contests.

Stanton wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Keaton Butler, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. BJ Treadaway was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Myrtle has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. Pillow Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Looking ahead, Myrtle will square off against Central Hinds Academy at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Myrtle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season. As for Pillow Academy, they will head out on the road to take on Hatley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pillow Academy is facing Hatley at the right time seeing as Hatley is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
