Basketball Recap: Wake Forest Falls Despite Big Games from Palmer Chase and Scott Jones

Wake Forest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They took a 58-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wakefield Wolverines. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 78-50 back in January.

Wake Forest's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Scott Jones, who went 7 for 11 on his way to 22 points, and Palmer Chase, who posted nine points and six rebounds. What's more, Jones also posted a 57% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in November of 2024.

Wakefield was led to victory by Avery Hicks and Ethan Wisler. Hicks almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards, while Wisler scored 19 points. Hicks' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Bishop Dudley, who earned five points and three steals.

Wake Forest's loss dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Wakefield, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-12.

Wake Forest and Wakefield could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Wake Forest will challenge Millbrook at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 286 places (366 vs. 80). Meanwhile, Wakefield (ranked 206th) will meet Knightdale (ranked 50th) at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
