Basketball Recap: Island Coast Takes a Loss

After flying high against Cypress Lake on Thursday, Island Coast came back down to earth. The Island Coast Gators were outmatched by the Lemon Bay Manta Rays and fell 61-25. The defeat continues a trend for the Gators in their matchups with the Manta Rays: they've now lost seven in a row.

Despite the loss, Island Coast saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jamieryah Davis posted 12 points.

Lemon Bay's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maya Collins, who went 9 of 20 on her way to 19 points in addition to six steals and five assists. Lemon Bay is 5-1 when Collins posts five or more steals, but 6-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Long, who went 6 for 10 to rack up 12 points along with seven assists and six rebounds.

Island Coast's defeat dropped their record down to 7-17. As for Lemon Bay, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-9.

Island Coast has already played their next contest, a 38-34 victory against Cypress Lake on the 4th. As for Lemon Bay, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 62-25 win against LaBelle on the 6th.
