Baseball Recap: La Joya Has No Trouble Against Hallettsville

La Joya was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Hallettsville on Friday. The La Joya Coyotes' pitchers stepped up to hand the Hallettsville Brahmas a 10-0 shutout. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Coyotes this season.

Hunter Morales looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, La Joya got a massive performance out of Gael Zambrano, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Zambrano also brought in three RBI, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Matthew Ortiz, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

La Joya always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory snapped La Joya's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-3 record. As for Hallettsville, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-2.

Looking ahead, La Joya will take on San Antonio HomeSchool at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Hallettsville, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 7-0 win against Almeta Crawford on the 28th.
