Softball Game Preview: Reno Huskies vs. Damonte Ranch Mustangs

The Reno Huskies will head out on the road to take on the Damonte Ranch Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Reno has given up an average of 10.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Reno heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Tuesday. They lost 18-0 to Bishop Manogue.

Reno saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kailyn Carter, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Damonte Ranch faced Reed in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Mustangs took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raiders. Having soared to a lofty 27 runs in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.

Angie Gomez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Damonte Ranch's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-13. As for Reno, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-16-1.

Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Reno has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445. However, it's not like Damonte Ranch struggles in that department as they've averaged .501. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Reno suffered a grim 21-11 defeat to Damonte Ranch when the teams last played back in March. Can the Huskies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
