Football Recap: Atkins Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Atkins extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They were dealt a 49-13 loss at the hands of the R.J. Reynolds Demons. While losing is never fun, the Camels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 323rd, while the Demons are ranked 121st).

Brayden James threw for 76 yards on seven of 11 attempts. Sean Hart was his top target, picking up 54 receiving yards. On the ground, Kenneth Best rushed for 55 yards and one TD.

As for R.J. Reynolds, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 13.0 points on average this season.

R.J. Reynolds got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tommy Elrod out in front who threw for 177 yards and three touchdowns while completing 91.7% of his passes. Herschel McNeal was in the mix as well, providing the Demons with two scores.

Atkins will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Parkland at 7:00 p.m. on the 19th. As for R.J. Reynolds, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 19-14 victory against Southeast Guilford on the 12th.
