Hanna is 0-9 against Veterans Memorial since March of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Hanna Golden Eagles will look to defend their home field against the Veterans Memorial Chargers at 6:30 p.m. Hanna has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Hanna had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but San Benito put an end to it on Tuesday. Hanna lost 19-0 to San Benito. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Golden Eagles were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, Veterans Memorial scored first but ultimately less than Harlingen in their game on Tuesday. They took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinals.
Arianna Garcia put in work while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up four earned (and seven unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Mia Gonzalez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Itzel Rodriguez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Even though they lost, Veterans Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. This was only their first loss (out of four games) when they post 11 or more hits.
Veterans Memorial has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. Hanna's loss dropped their record down to 5-9-1.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hanna hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .370. However, it's not like Veterans Memorial struggles in that department as they've averaged .312. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hanna suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Veterans Memorial in their previous matchup back in February of 2021. Will Hanna have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
