Basketball Recap: Wewahitchka Comes Up Short

Wewahitchka played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Blountstown Tigers and fell 76-47. While losing is never fun, the Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 697th, while the Tigers are ranked 256th).

Several Gators players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rhemy Patrick, who posted 13 points and six steals. Patrick has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Ethridge, who earned five points along with seven boards and four blocks.

Blountstown found their leader in sophomore Curtis Ellis, who went 7 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and seven steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ellis has scored all season. Terrell Williams was another key player, going 5 of 9 on his way to 14 points.

Wewahitchka has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Blountstown, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3.

Wewahitchka will challenge Port St. Joe at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Port St. Joe is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.4 points per game this season. Blountstown has already played their next game, a 58-44 win against Holmes County on the 20th.
