Baseball Recap: Foothills Christian Wins Going Away Against Coastal Academy

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Escondido Charter, Foothills Christian was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Coastal Academy Stingrays. That looming 15-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Knights yet this season.

Jr Merino made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Foothills Christian: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 2-4 otherwise. Merino was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Jack Morgan and Jeremy Saucedo did most of the damage at the plate: Morgan scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Saucedo scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Foothills Christian is 2-1 when Morgan posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Trevor Cochrum, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Foothills Christian hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coastal Academy struck out seven times.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 4-5. As for Coastal Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-3.

Looking ahead, Foothills Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Vincent Memorial at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Foothills Christian is facing Vincent Memorial at the right time seeing as Vincent Memorial is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Coastal Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Pacific Ridge at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
