Baseball Recap: Newbury Park Takes a Loss

Oaks Christian hit Newbury Park with a seven-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers lost 9-2 to the Lions. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Lions this season, with their most recent defeat being a 8-1 loss on Thursday.

Newbury Park got a good showing from Noah Habib, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the first time Habib hasn't allowed a single earned run since back in March.

Newbury Park has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-14 record this season. As for Oaks Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-8.

Coming up, Newbury Park will square off against Ventura at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cougars are coming into the contest with eight straight wins on the road, so the Panthers will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum. As for Oaks Christian, they will face off against JSerra Catholic at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Oaks Christian 4.1, JSerra Catholic 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
