Baseball Recap: Patrick Henry Academy Sets Scoring Season-High Against Providence Athletic Club

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Patrick Henry Academy). They put the hurt on the Providence Athletic Club Panthers with a sharp 13-2 victory on Wednesday. The win was familiar territory for the Patriots, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Jacob Corley made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Corley was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Sims Brunson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Patrick Henry Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Briar Long, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base.

Patrick Henry Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Providence Athletic Club only posted an OBP of .273.

Patrick Henry Academy pushed their record up to 7-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Providence Athletic Club, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Patrick Henry Academy will welcome Orangeburg Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Providence Athletic Club, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Augusta E at 6:30 p.m. on the 21st.
