Softball Game Preview: Paso Robles Bearcats vs. Templeton Eagles

The Paso Robles Bearcats will venture away from home to face off against the Templeton Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Paso Robles turned things around against Atascadero on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Greyhounds by a score of 5-2.

Meanwhile, Templeton came tearing into Tuesday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Panthers as they made off with a 10-2 win. Considering the Eagles have won six contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Tegan Jay spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ella Acosta, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Aislyn Vogt was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Templeton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pioneer Valley only posted a batting average of .167.

Templeton pushed their record up to 14-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Paso Robles, their record is now 10-11-1.

Paso Robles might still be hurting after the 17-6 defeat they got from Templeton in their previous matchup on April 8th. Can the Bearcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
