Basketball Recap: Thunder Ridge Comes Up Short

Thunder Ridge lost against Lakeside back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Thunder Ridge Longhorns fell 49-37 to the Lakeside Knights. While losing is never fun, the Longhorns can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 220th, while the Knights are ranked 85th).

When it comes to explaining why Thunder Ridge lost, don't look at Evan Slavik. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. Slavik is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Declan Tweedy, who posted eight points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Thunder Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Reece Remus continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lakeside, going 7 for 14 on his way to 14 points along with five rebounds and five steals. What's more, Remus also racked up four blocks, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Jace Cunningham was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Thunder Ridge's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Lakeside, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

Thunder Ridge wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 60-57 win against Tescott on the 20th. Lakeside has also already played their next game, a 52-35 victory against Rock Hills on the 20th.
