Basketball Recap: Wayzata Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Maple Grove

On Thursday, Wayzata faced Maple Grove in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Wayzata Trojans took a 72-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Maple Grove Crimson. The defeat continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Crimson: they've now lost three in a row.

Wayzata's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-2. As for Maple Grove, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wayzata will take on Como Park in a holiday battle at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at. Wayzata knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Como Park likes a good challenge. As for Maple Grove, they will square off against Alexandria at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Alexandria will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Maple Grove surely won't give up without a fight.
