Basketball Recap: Ben Lomond Scots vs. Union Cougars
The Ben Lomond Scots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their eighth straight defeat. They took a 60-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Union. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Ben Lomond in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now lost five in a row.
Several Scots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jake East, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Alcarez, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Wayke Olsen continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Union, scoring 27 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Stetson Duncan, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Ben Lomond has not been sharp recently as the team's lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Union, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-12.
Ben Lomond will be playing at home against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ogden knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully the Scots like a good challenge. As for Union, they will head out on the road to challenge the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Utah (Morgan is ranked 69th, while the Cougars are ranked 86th).
