Baseball Recap: West Salem Comes Up Short

West Salem had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 8-11 to make it ten. They came up short against the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau Red Hawks, falling 18-1. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Red Hawks earlier this season, when they won 7-6.

West Salem saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Baginski, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.

As for Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-8. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau's side, they got a great performance from Ben Filla as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.

At the plate, Jackson Burns was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Sam De Jager also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

West Salem didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-7 victory against Belleville on the 17th. As for Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, they have also already played their next match, a 4-0 win against Black River Falls on the 19th.
