Baseball Recap: Machias Gets the Win

Machias proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 20) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Woodland Dragons 9-7. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-2 back in April.

Mickey Fitzsimmons made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Fitzsimmons was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Machias let Blake Bridges and Lucas Robicheau run wild. Bridges went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Robicheau went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Alley, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Machias' record now sits at 6-4. As for Woodland, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 8-4 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Machias will head out to take on Bangor Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Woodland, they will venture away from home to challenge Calais at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Dragons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
