Softball Recap: Sahuaro Comes Up Short

Sahuaro fell victim to Pusch Ridge Christian Academy and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 12-0 to the Lions. The defeat leaves the Cougars still looking for their first win of the season.

Julissa Estrada spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and 11 unearned) runs on nine hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.

On the hitting side, Sahuaro saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julyssa Canfield, who went 2-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Canfield hit this season.

Sahuaro's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season.

Sahuaro and Pusch Ridge Christian Academy could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings. The Cougars will face off against Ironwood Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (206 vs. 43). Meanwhile, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy (ranked 134th) will meet Empire (ranked sixth) at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing isn't great for the Lions: they have been struggling with eight straight losses at home dating back to last season, while the Ravens have snatched up eight consecutive wins on the road.
