The Alameda Hornets will head out on the road to challenge the Newark Memorial Cougars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Alameda came up short against Bishop O'Dowd on Friday, falling 11-5.
Meanwhile, Newark Memorial fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Washington on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 9-8. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Noah Hanohano put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Newark Memorial got a good showing from Max Segura, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Segura has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Anthony Medrano was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Andres Romo, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Alameda has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. As for Newark Memorial, the loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 14-4.
Alameda couldn't quite get it done against Newark Memorial in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
