The Hilmar Yellowjackets will challenge the Hughson Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Hilmar barely beat Sonora the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Yellowjackets were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Wildcats on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Yellowjackets sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Caleb Contreras was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Hilmar is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 7-8 otherwise. Contreras was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, John Lopez was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Hilmar is undefeated when Lopez posts two or more stolen bases, but 7-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Dana Gentry, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Hilmar was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, while Hughson put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Sonora. The Huskies blew past the Wildcats 10-0. The win continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won seven in a row.
Gavin Gomez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Gomez was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karsen Moore, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Landon Petersen, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Hilmar's victory bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Hughson, their win bumped their record up to 11-14.
Hilmar's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. The Yellowjackets have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Hughson, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Hilmar continue to outrun the ball?
Hilmar couldn't quite get it done against Hughson in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 as they fell 8-4. Will the Yellowjackets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
