Basketball Recap: Grant Schmidt's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Broomfield over Ralston Valley

Broomfield lost against Ralston Valley back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Broomfield Eagles took a 69-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ralston Valley Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Mustangs are ranked first).

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Grant Schmidt, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 13 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Cook, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 13 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Broomfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Ralston Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tanner Braketa, who went 7 of 17 on his way to 23 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Caiden Braketa, who posted 11 points in addition to eight assists and six boards.

Broomfield's record is now 5-5. As for Ralston Valley, the win keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

Broomfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 75-38 victory against Skyline on the 8th. As for Ralston Valley, they will face off against Smoky Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ralston Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.4 points per game this season.
