Basketball Recap: East Central Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Natalie Stenger and Teagan Leihgeber

East Central easily dispatched Rushville last Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The East Central Trojans fell just short of the Madison Cubs by a score of 46-43 on Thursday. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cubs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.

East Central's loss came despite strong showings from Teagan Leihgeber and Natalie Stenger. Leihgeber posted five points and 23 boards, while Stenger went 6 of 8 en route to 17 points and six rebounds. Those 23 rebounds gave Leihgeber a new career-high.

Even though they lost, East Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Madison's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kenzie Smith led the charge by going 6 for 11 on her way to 15 points and three steals. Juliana Davis was another key player, going 5 of 12 en route to 12 points.

East Central's record is now 9-9. As for Madison, their victory bumped their record up to 13-4.

East Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 42-38 defeat against New Palestine on the 24th. Madison has also already played their next contest, an 81-48 win against Columbus East on the 25th.
