Football Game Preview: Davenport Wolves vs. Canyon Lake Hawks

The Davenport Wolves will challenge the Canyon Lake Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Canyon Lake will be up against a hot Davenport squad: the team just extended their winning streak to nine. The Wolves put the hurt on Uvalde with a sharp 40-20 win on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Wolves' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 149th, while the Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) are ranked 786th).

Barrett Fallon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 197 yards and three TDs while picking up 8.6 yards per carry, and also catching one touchdown. He has been hot for a while, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last 11 times he's played.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Canyon Lake, who bounced back after a loss on the road on October 10th. They simply couldn't be stopped last Friday as they easily beat Uvalde 47-7. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-0.

Canyon Lake's win came from a few key players Davenport will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Chris Brown, who rushed for 95 yards and three scores on only 12 carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Jace Wheeler was another key player, throwing for 203 yards and three TDs on only 14 passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Canyon Lake was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 257 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Canyon Lake's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Davenport, their win bumped their record up to 9-0.

Davenport strolled past Canyon Lake when the teams last played back in November of 2024 by a score of 61-42. Do the Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
